Have knee osteoarthritis? A recent study published by Seminars in Arthritis & Rheumatism provides a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of curcumin and Boswellia for knee osteoarthritis. Curcumin and boswellia forumlations have been known to moderate key inflammatory pathways that are associated with worsening symptoms and disease progression. Curcumin was tested against placebo or NSAIDs.
Curcumin and Boswellia forumulations were found to be statistically significantly more effective than placebo for pain relief and functional improvement, and were found to have no difference in outcomes against NSAIDs, except that patients were less likely to experience gastrointestinal adverse events.
